If you’ve been researching Clearlight infrared saunas, you’ve probably come across the debate: Premier vs. Sanctuary sauna. On the surface, they both look great, they’re both from Clearlight, and they both promise cozy sessions that support your health at home. So which one is actually better?
In this month’s “Ask Jen,” I answer some of your most common sauna questions, from whether sauna floors are heated to how basswood stacks up against mahogany. After 16 years in the sauna space, I can promise this: the “right” choice has less to do with the specs and more to do with your lifestyle.
Let’s bust a myth right away: Clearlight sauna floors are heated. Both Premier and Sanctuary models include in-floor infrared heating. It’s warm for your feet, never too hot, and adds to the overall cabin heat. Think radiant floor heating in your bathroom: simple, cozy, and intentional.
Both are excellent options, but here’s how they compare:

The takeaway: Sanctuary is the Cadillac: open, high-tech, and hotter. Premier is classic: warm, private, and simple. Neither is wrong. It comes down to your preferences.
This is one of those “don’t find out later” details. Clearlight Premier two-person models plug into a standard outlet, while Sanctuary 2 requires a dedicated circuit. If upgrading your electrical isn’t in the cards, Premier may be the better fit.
Clearlight gives you two main wood choices:
In my own home, I went with basswood because it blended perfectly with our light maple trim. That’s actually how most people decide; by the look or their budget. Both are eco-certified and durable, so you really can’t go wrong.
Sanctuary comes with an upgraded panel (13 colors, remote control). Premier has a simpler set. Some people love the mood and chakra balance vibe. Others never turn them on. It’s not a make-or-break feature, just a nice option to have.
When choosing between a Premier vs. Sanctuary sauna, the specs only tell half the story. What matters more is how you feel inside the cabin.
Do you want privacy, a more traditional “wood cabin” sauna, and a simpler plug-and-play setup? That’s Premier.
Do you want more heat intensity, glass walls, and extra tech features? That’s Sanctuary.
Your home should heal you. That means your sauna should feel like a space you want to step into daily, not a compromise you regret.
There’s no universal “best” when it comes to the Clearlight Premier vs. Sanctuary sauna. Instead, there’s the model that fits you: your space, your health goals, and your daily routine.
The good news? You really can’t go wrong. Both models are built to last, backed by Clearlight’s lifetime warranty, and designed to support your wellness journey right at home.
