Infrared saunas offer numerous health benefits. They’re excellent for healing from an injury, reducing inflammation, improving circulation, and even aiding in the recovery from brain trauma, such as concussions. While I’m not a medical expert, I’ve experienced firsthand how this therapy can promote unbelievable healing, especially when combined with red light therapy.
I had one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life—Banff, Canada.
I was there for a week-long ladies’ retreat called “Soul Adventure,” organized by my friend Sara. It was packed with hiking, exploration, and overall, we saw so much of the stunning natural beauty Banff has to offer. But one specific challenge that tested me mentally and physically like never before was climbing Mount Norquay Via Ferrata.
Via Ferrata is like an obstacle course up the side of a mountain. You’re harnessed in using carabiners and use metal pegs and bars to pull yourself up. It’s not for the faint of heart! This was by far one of the most physically and mentally demanding experiences I’ve ever taken on, especially because the left side of my body still has motor function limitations due to the stroke I suffered years ago. My left hand is the most affected—I have limited grip strength and fine motor skills—so this was a huge hurdle for me.
I’ll save a more detailed account of my Banff adventure for a future blog. However, today I want to emphasize that I would not have experienced Banff if I had not used a few specific therapies routinely over the years, and one of those is my Clearlight infrared sauna.
Here are some questions I’ve been asked recently and I’m excited to share the answers with you:
Question 1: Can red light therapy help with concussions and other head trauma?
Jen’s Answer: While I’m not a medical doctor, I’ve done quite a bit of research and have worked with many professional athletes who have suffered concussions. Studies have shown that red light therapy (also known as photobiomodulation) can significantly improve cognitive performance and support healing from brain trauma.
There are ongoing studies at places like the University of Utah and the VA in Boston that are exploring how this therapy can aid recovery from head injuries.
I’ve personally found red light therapy to be incredibly effective for nerve regeneration. It’s also widely recognized for reducing stress and inflammation, which is critical in healing from any kind of trauma, including concussions.
I suffered significant nerve damage after my stroke. My left hand was severely affected, to the point where I had almost no movement. It was incredibly frustrating. As soon as I started using red light therapy with my sauna sessions, my entire body started repairing quicker, including the motor function in my left hand.
During my very first session, something miraculous happened. Within about 10 minutes of putting my hand in front of the red light, the nerves in my left hand started twitching. I couldn’t believe it! After years of limited mobility, I was seeing real signs of hope for recovery. That moment was incredibly emotional for me, and it’s one I’ll never forget. I was so thankful to have found something that genuinely worked for me.
Question 2: Does Clearlight®️ sauna make an outdoor sauna?
Jen’s Answer: Yes, and it is the best on the market.
Clearlight’s outdoor saunas are as high-quality as their indoor models and designed to handle the elements. These saunas come in two sizes—one for two people and a larger one for four to five people. They are weatherproof, with double-pane windows and a slanted roof to keep rain and snow off.
Check out the spec sheets and information here.
However, if you live in an area with extreme weather conditions (like heavy snow, ice, or high winds), it’s important to discuss your specific needs with me. While the saunas are built for outdoor use, we’ll want to ensure your investment is properly protected. And for those creating beautiful outdoor wellness spaces—maybe with a cold plunge or a peaceful view of nature—an outdoor sauna could be a perfect addition to your sanctuary.
Question 3: Can I work out in the sauna?
Jen’s Answer: Absolutely! But I recommend using your infrared sauna as a recovery tool rather than a workout space.
After a good workout, jump into the sauna to help your muscles recover, reduce soreness, and improve circulation. This combination is a fantastic way to support your body after physical activity.
That said, if you want to do some light stretching, light bodyweight exercises, or a short yoga routine inside the sauna, go for it! But I caution against attempting an intense workout right after a sauna session, as your muscles may be a bit looser and you could risk overdoing it.
When working out in the sauna, be mindful of what you bring in. Clearlight®️ has a sanctuary yoga sauna and sanctuary retreat, which have extra floor space for yoga mats or exercise routines. Some people bring in weights, bands, and even their Peloton bikes, although I don’t recommend bringing in electronics. It’s important to avoid bringing in plastics and petroleum-based products. You can do some movement and stretching in the sauna, but be careful not to overexert yourself. I usually do a 10-15 minute abs routine, some stretching, or even squats. It’s important to listen to your body, not push yourself too hard. Stay hydrated and have enough food.
One last thing…
I want to emphasize the importance of staying hydrated. It’s extremely beneficial. If you compare your workout routines with my daily sauna sessions, staying hydrated is essential. You don’t need to drink excessive water, but you shouldn’t deprive yourself either. Consider using a good electrolyte supplement, or add a couple of pinches of sea salt to a warm glass of water if necessary. I have a few electrolyte options available on my website to explore.
In general, it’s crucial to stay hydrated, especially when combining these activities and demanding a lot from your body. You need to ensure that you’re providing it with everything it needs.

As we wrap up, I’d like to share a moving testimonial from someone who bought a sauna for her home.
“Thank you, Jen, for helping me give the greatest gift I could ever give myself, my best health. When you and I first connected last year, I was beyond desperate for help. I was recently divorced, 30 lbs overweight, suffering from migraines, and rarely slept through the night. Since then, I’ve been using my sauna 2-3 times a week, and it’s completely changed my life. My joint pain is gone. I haven’t had a migraine in many months. I’m sleeping six to seven hours uninterrupted. Plus, I not only let go of 30 lbs, but I added eight more for good measure. I feel fantastic and have been told by many that I look 10 years younger. Thank you so much for your passion and for guiding me to my best health. God bless.”
