Not all saunas are created equal—and if you’ve ever wondered why, this conversation will open your eyes. In this encore episode of Homes That Heal, I sat down with my longtime friend and mentor, Dr. Raleigh Duncan, founder of Clearlight Saunas. We talked about the healing power of infrared therapy, the truth about EMF safety, and why the future of wellness is about creating safe healing spaces right at home.
I’ve worked with Clearlight Saunas for over 15 years, and I can honestly say this partnership has changed not only my life, but the lives of thousands of people I’ve been able to serve. Let’s dig into why this conversation is so important and why Raleigh’s work has shaped how I view healing at home.
Nearly three decades ago, Raleigh was a chiropractor with a vision. He saw firsthand how infrared heat could change lives, and he started tinkering in his garage with the idea of building a better sauna. What began with a VW bus, a massage table, and a couple of early sauna units grew into what is now Clearlight—one of the most trusted names in infrared wellness worldwide.
Why does that matter? Because when you’re stepping into a sauna, you’re not just sitting in a wooden box with heaters. You’re stepping into years of innovation, testing, and a mission rooted in healing.
Here’s something most sauna companies don’t want you to think about: EMFs (electromagnetic fields) and ELFs (extra-low frequencies). These invisible forces can stress the body instead of helping it heal. Raleigh’s team spent years figuring out how to silence EMFs in their heaters, and later developed a way to reduce ELFs too. The result? A sauna that lets your body rest, detox, and heal without hidden interference.
For me, that was a game-changer. As someone who struggled with heavy metal toxicity, the last thing I needed was extra stress on my nervous system. Clearlight’s dedication to safety is one of the reasons I’ve stayed loyal for so long.
Infrared heat works differently than traditional hot-air saunas. Instead of just heating the air, infrared light penetrates the body, helping cells release toxins, easing muscle tension, and encouraging the body into a parasympathetic “rest and repair” state.
Think of it as a deep, cellular hug. Your skin softens, your muscles relax, your mind clears—and those detox pathways finally get the support they need. This is why I’ve said for years that my sauna is my favorite healing tool.
One of the most common questions I get is: Do I need full spectrum, or is far infrared enough? Raleigh explains it beautifully: far infrared is what our bodies naturally emit and receive, but adding near and mid-infrared through full spectrum heaters can deepen the therapeutic effect.
Then there’s red light therapy, also called photobiomodulation (PBM). This uses specific wavelengths of light to energize your cells, extend their lifespan, and boost healing. I’ve used red light in my own recovery journey, and the results have been nothing short of life-changing.
Years ago, I faced heavy metal toxicity and even suffered a stroke that left me with paralysis on my left side. My sauna became my sanctuary. Infrared heat helped my body detox safely, while red light therapy supported nerve regeneration and healing. I’ll never forget the first time I turned on the red light in my sauna and watched my left hand twitch back to life. That moment is why I’m so passionate about sharing these tools with you.
Raleigh isn’t done innovating. In fact, one of the newest tools Clearlight is rolling out is the Sun One, a wellness device that delivers narrow-band UVB light for vitamin D support and skin health. Pair that with options like salt therapy, aromatherapy, and sound vibration in your sauna, and you’ve got a full wellness center right in your home.
At the end of the day, wellness doesn’t have to be complicated. When your home supports your health, your body finally has the space to heal. For me, that’s what Clearlight Saunas represent: not just heat, but hope.
If you’ve been curious about infrared therapy or wondering whether a Clearlight sauna might be right for you, take this encore conversation as your invitation to explore further.
