We’ve all been there — staring down the next diet trend, wondering if this one might finally be “the one.” From keto to carnivore to clean-eating everything, it’s easy to lose sight of what our body actually needs. That’s why the conversation around personalized nutrition and longevity feels like a breath of fresh air.
Because real health isn’t about restriction. It’s about learning how your body works — right down to your DNA — and supporting it so you can thrive for the long haul.
And that truth hit home for me years ago when I decided to simply… walk.
Before I knew anything about detoxing or longevity, I was just a woman trying to feel better in her own body. I was overweight, exhausted, and unsure where to begin.
One morning, I looked out the window, laced up my sneakers, and promised myself I’d walk/jog to the end of the road — 0.6 miles. That was it. My goal wasn’t perfection. It was movement.
I walked, rested, walked again. Over time, those walks turned into light jogs. Then longer runs. Eventually, a 5K. But the real victory wasn’t the distance — it was the shift. Every step made me curious: what would happen if I nourished my body better, slept deeper, hydrated smarter?
That curiosity is exactly what today’s guest, Chris Newport, teaches through her work as a sports dietitian and longevity coach: that sustainable wellness starts small and personal — not one-size-fits-all.
Chris’s story started in endurance sports, but her mission applies to anyone who wants to live longer, stronger, and with more ease. Her approach blends movement science, personalized nutrition, and genetic insights to help people create a blueprint for wellness that actually fits them.
No more guessing. No more chasing trends.
She calls it longevity nutrition — a way of fueling your body for the long game. Whether you’re training for a triathlon or just trying to make it through your afternoon without that 3 p.m. crash, personalized nutrition helps you understand exactly what your body needs based on genetics, metabolism, and lifestyle.
If that sounds complicated, don’t worry — Chris breaks it down into four simple, universal non-negotiables:
Protein helps preserve lean muscle mass, which becomes harder to maintain as we age. Losing muscle (called sarcopenia) affects strength, metabolism, and even brain health. Whether your protein comes from plants or animals, aim for enough to keep your muscles working for you, not against you.
Clean, mineral-rich water is foundational. Your body can’t detox or rebuild without it. As Chris said, “If you can do anything, get good-quality water.” It’s one reason I installed a full-home filtration and alkaline system — because the water you drink, bathe in, and cook with becomes part of you.
Fiber might not sound glamorous, but it’s one of the most powerful longevity tools out there. It supports digestion, gut health, detoxification, and blood sugar balance. As Chris put it, “Fiber leads to longevity.” Fruits, veggies, beans, and whole grains — your plate should look like a paint palette.
Too much or too little food throws your system off balance. Chris teaches clients to use their hand as a built-in measuring guide — a fist of carbs, a palm of protein, a thumb of fats. Your body size determines your portion size. No apps required.
Information isn’t the problem. Integration is.
We know what to eat, yet we rush, multitask, and eat in stress mode. When we slow down, breathe, and eat intentionally — even take a moment of gratitude before a meal — our body’s digestion and hormones respond differently. Enzymes activate, fullness signals turn on, and nutrients are absorbed more efficiently.
So yes, the way you eat matters as much as what you eat.
Here’s where things get exciting.
Chris uses genetic testing to identify your personal blueprint — everything from how you metabolize caffeine to how your body handles inflammation, detox, and nutrients.
This isn’t about labels or limits; it’s about clarity. Instead of trying every diet under the sun, you can finally understand your body’s needs.
Through her Longevity Nutrition Coaching Program (mention code HOMESTHATHEAL), Chris combines functional nutrition, genetic insights, and behavioral coaching. Clients bring their genetic reports, learn how to interpret them, and get live coaching to make the data actionable — like how to eat for detox pathways, stress response, or hormone balance.
It’s science and self-awareness rolled into one.
Our genes may set the blueprint, but our environment writes the story.
That’s why clean air, clean water, and a low-toxin home are part of any true longevity plan. As Chris explained, “Whether you’re an Olympic athlete or you barely exercise, everyone deserves clean air and clean water.”
That philosophy mirrors what we believe here at Homes That Heal — your home should support your health, not sabotage it.
And when it comes to detox, tools like infrared saunas help your body sweat out what your genetics can’t easily process. They’re not a shortcut — they’re a support system.
Your body’s ability to use oxygen (measured as VO₂ max) is one of the strongest predictors of longevity. In simple terms: the better your cardio-respiratory fitness, the longer and better you tend to live.
You don’t need to be a triathlete to benefit. Walking briskly, hiking, cycling, even dancing in your kitchen — anything that gets your heart and lungs working counts.
Movement is medicine. Every heartbeat is a vote for your future self.
When it comes to personalized nutrition and longevity, the real secret isn’t another supplement or trend. It’s building habits that honor your body’s blueprint — from what’s on your plate to the water in your glass and the pace at which you breathe between bites.
Longevity isn’t about perfection. It’s about paying attention.
Start with the basics. Move your body. Eat colorful, protein-rich foods. Stay hydrated. Slow down. Get curious about your genetics if you can — it’s one of the most empowering forms of self-knowledge there is.
And remember: you can’t rush longevity. But you can live it, one small step — or walk to the end of the road — at a time.
